Preserving the Legacy of Women in Canada
The Women’s Archives at the University of Ottawa Archives and Special Collections (ARCS) is one of the most significant collections of its kind in Canada, preserving the voices, experiences, and activism of women and feminist movements since the 1960s.
Contained within the Archives are stories of individuals and organizations who have worked tirelessly to improve the status of and the lives of women in Canada and internationally.
The storyteller in residence is tasked with uncovering the hidden stories in the archives, bringing those stories to life through accessible narratives in the form of blog posts and articles as well as more in depth exhibits. The storyteller role is an opportunity for a student to acquire research and writing experience while bringing the past to light which can lead to critical discussions, build connections to current organizations, and make relevant the archives to modern users.
“Your generous gift will help grow this collection into a cornerstone of the uOttawa Library, safeguarding Canadian women's documentary heritage for years to come. With your support, we can collect, digitize, and archive crucial artifacts, extend the reach of this collection to broader audiences, and build new partnerships that enhance accessibility and research. Together, we can honor the past and empower the future.” Talia Chung, University Librarian and Dean of Libraries
